Who Are We?
One way or another, we're all writers. Some of us write novels, others blogs. Some are poets. It doesn't matter what you write. Only that you write.
Why Are We Here?
Writing is - by its nature - a solitary practice but that doesn't mean it needs to be a solitary experience.
Whatever you write, you don't need to do it alone. Being part of a community of writers means there's always somebody around who understands you have imaginary friends. Who understand that getting to the core of an idea using only words is a challenge. Who know that persistence is the key skill in achieving a writing career.
What Do We Do?
Our goal is to help you find the process that works for you. Maybe that's writing every day. Maybe that's binge-writing or outlining or discovery. Maybe it's memoir or poetry. Maybe it's blogging.
Do you need some guidance in publishing your novel? Some assistance in finding and growing your audience?
Maybe you just need to build the writing habit or are looking for the writing tools that work for you.
We won't have all the answers, but maybe we can point you in the right direction so you can find them for yourself.
Whatever path you're on in this community of letters, we're here to walk beside you.
Let me introduce myself, I am a published author, I have my first draft of my second book in progress- I've been sitting on it the last few months though...Just briefly I am a photographer, writer/ author/ blogger, health coach, dog runner/ walker, and online creator. The title of my book is
UNleash Your Inner Athlete Alongside Your Dog! As I said my first draft is complete, now comes the real writing- the editing...right? or is it write?... FYI I have a sad sense of humor! It doesn't look like I can attach my PDF so if you want to check it out, email me at pamela@doggonehealthychoices.com. Thank You kindly!Welcome!
I know all about "sitting on it." :?
Maybe the April event will spur us all on.
Hi! While I'm not wearing my writer hat much these days (although I have in the past, and I've worked with writers in a variety of roles), as a professional audiobook narrator, I'm deeply involved with writers now every day, and I co-market the audiobooks we produce. I'm extremely interested in learning from writers how they build their newsletters and market to their fanbases.
I'll be mostly quietly lurking in this group and I look forward to learning from all of you.
Welcome aboard.
Nice to be hear am a health educator looking forward to learn more from you guys
This is a lovely post! I feel very welcome, with my little newbie self. 😉🥰
Thank You. When I read your articles, I get inspired after a long day working and want to write and do my social media posts. This is because I love what I do.
All I want to do is write, and it is binge-writing. I want to finish a book I am giving away in a convert A kit. There are many goals I have going forward.
It really is great to see all these creators.
Thank You,
Lori English, MSW
Aw. Thanks.
I'm just trying to share what I know and help people along.
I was a binge writer for a long time. I'm trying to even out the peaks and valleys now. I've been at it a long time (since 2007) and finding a sustainable practice has become an important goal.
I have been writing articles, copy, content, and case studies for several years PT. Now I retired from my long-time university position to go into a FT business of my own in health and wellness. Looking for ways to streamline my time for creative reflection, writing, strategic planning and running my business.
No small tasks in combination and would love to hear what works for others.
Welcome!!
I recommend a planner of some kind. A place to collect and collate. I use The Publishing Planner for Self Published Authors by Corinne O'Flynn The coil bound version on Lulu lays flat without breaking the spine. [transparency: I know Corinne. She's a colleague and friend. I still pay full price for it.]
I have a 2x3 white board and a full "year at a glance" calendar on the wall beside my desk to track status at a glance.
I try to get out and walk for 2 miles every morning to clear my head and burn off excess angst. (I just realized that I skipped it this morning and it's too late now.)
I also use a Moleskine A5 hard cover notebook for journaling. I like the PITT Artists pens. This is a work in progress. I need to get better at it.
My meditation practice has fallen off the schedule, but I do try to keep a schedule and work on maintaining focus on the most important things instead of the most urgent.
If you haven't already, get a bank account set up for the business. I didn't in the beginning and it's been the single most significant time saving and stress reducing thing I've done in the last decade.
As for creative reflection, one thing I've noted repeatedly is that it's almost impossible to write if I'm not reading. That's been brought home to me time and time again.
Also.
My path is not yours. You'll find your own and it'll be the right one. I have faith in ya. 😄
Great tips Nathan! I used to be a regular meditator too but that seems to have fallen off my radar.
I do notice that journaling is a way for me to connect deeply with myself. I tend to get cranky and restless when I haven't connected with myself for a long time.
I've also noticed that I write the best, or shall I say I am the most in the flow zone early morning-ish after breakfast. Frustratingly though it is right before I am supposed to start work for someone else. Luckily, my work at times is flexible enough so I can squeeze in a few words.
Those are such helpful and actionable tips, thank you! I was accepted into a writing fellowship that has a good track record of helping people go from writing for fun to writing more seriously. I have CK for my business and this is a "side thing" but I was thrilled to see that this group exists.
Welcome! :)
Beautifully put, Nathan. Thank you.
Thank you.
I am getting started
Maybe some are more started than others but aren't we all? :)
